Plan Your Move - Alpha Van Moving Tips - Prepare for your Move

There is perhaps no bigger project to plan than a move. It can be overwhelming seeing how many needs to be transported which is why it is vital to prepare in advance. In an effort to make your move as easy as possible, we have created some helpful moving tips to follow. Our list can serve as a guide and we hope you find the tips useful.

30 days until Moving Day:

  • 1. In general it is best to book a date and time with your moving company well in advance, especially during the busy summer season.
  • 2. Compile a list of everything you wish to bring into your new home. For pricing purposes we will also create a list for you but it is still wise to have one of your own so that you can be as organized as possible.
  • 3. To get rid of unwanted items hold a yard sale or donate them to charity. This will help make your move easier and also give you some extra money or tax incentives.
  • 4. Use the move as a reason to check all appliances to see if service is needed to save an extra trip and money.
  • 5. Make sure to contact your utility companies’ adequate notice of when to disconnect and reconnect your gas, water and electric services.
  • 6. Arrange appointments with the phone and cable companies so you can get these important items in place when you move into your home.
  • 7. Make sure to set up a forwarding address with your local post office.
  • 8. Pay all your bills so that there are no outstanding payments from your old home that have to be made once you move.
  • 9. Rid the house of most food items so that there is less to transport.
  • 10. Clean your refrigerator by emptying and defrosting it. Give at least 24 hours to air dry.
